St. Patrick’s Day: Shamrocks in the Wind, or Oz is just over the state line, thataway…
The St. Patrick’s Day parade in Kansas City was yet again, wonderful and spectacular. I had a wonderful time, took lots of pictures, wish you were here, thank you for asking.
It was also very, very windy.
Employees of local realty company James B Nutter almost had a house fall on them.

See for yourself:
But these guys at least were not in danger of flying away. No, it took magic shamrocks to do that:
They looked innocent enough, coming down the street.
We’re Supposed to be moving forward….
But then the wind picked up, and the poor sailors started tacking:
Full Sails Ahead!
The gentleman in the dress blues ordered them to get moving forward again….
We’re foundering, Captain!
But the shamrocks had other things in mind.
Hey, mate, let me give you a hand.
Members of the crowd took pity on our poor sailors and began helping:
With a little help from my friends
And finally, with enough help, the shamrocks began to cooperate and head on down the road:
Thank you to the US Navy for what turned out to be by far the most interesting float of the day.
Speaking of flying away, an Irish flag balloon decided it needed to be flown higher, so it waved at the flags at the VFW as it flew away….
Flags in the wind
And a traditional Irish blessing for those of you who followed the story to its end:
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
